12/25 DAWN WELLS JOINS THE SHOW!

SPECIAL GUEST HOST DAWN WELLS JOINS THE SHOW!

In connection with the 50th anniversary of the unexpected hit series "Gilligan's Island," Dawn (who portrayed the lovable farm girl next door, Mary Ann Sommers), has released "A Guide To Life: What Would Mary Ann Do?" through Taylor Trade Publishing and Rowman and Littlefield Publishing Group, Inc.

Dawn writes about the meaning of the Mary Ann character and observes the cultural shifts that have occurred since she was on the island.  From the get-go, the Mary Ann character was different. She wasn't a Hollywood creation. She was molded by Dawn, from Dawn.  The Character that was originally listed as "And the rest" on the credits became the fan favorite, garnering more fan mail that even the title character.  With over 150,000 fans on her FaceBook page and fan clubs across the U.S., her following has remained faithful.

Dawn says that Mary Ann fits today just as she fit two generations ago, because she is timeless. In a world where the industry and society has been celebrating their "Bad girls," Mary Ann continues to be, for many, the breathe of fresh air as the “Good Girl.” Pop culture is too powerful and too pervasive to be controlled by parents, siblings or colleagues. It can be confused with reality. This leaves young people in a vulnerable position - they have to make decisions that are normally beyond their maturity. Dawn discusses decisions we make in life and even goes straight to the BIG DECISION and delivers her concept of the meaning of sex.  In a world of participation trophies, easy praise, and entitlement attitudes, how do you define achievement? Dawn describes it as a journey of failure and learning and tenacity that requires a constant personal re-examination of what success really means.

12/22 BERNADETTE DUNCAN HARRISON, YAPPY DAYS: BEHIND THE SCENES WITH NEWSERS, SCHMOOZERS, BOOZERS AND LOSERS

RADIO PRODUCER, BERNADETTE DUNCAN HARRISON - AUTHOR, YAPPY DAYS: BEHIND THE SCENES WITH NEWSERS, SCHMOOZERS, BOOZERS AND LOSERS

This candidly told story includes Bernadette's firsthand impressions of the sometimes quirky celebrity talk show hosts whom she served as a producer during her career.

In talk radio, a producer does a wide variety of tasks in facilitating a show, including booking the guests, screening the listener phone calls, occasionally engineering the program, and most important, holding the hands, supporting, consoling, encouraging, and simply trying to get along with some of the most egotistical, egocentric, neurotic, insecure, demanding, opinionated, sometimes horrible, but oftentimes wonderful and always remarkably talented human beings to talk across the face of the earth.

They include some of the biggest in the business: Larry King, Sally Jessy Raphael, Gil Gross, Tom Snyder, Lou Dobbs, Charles Osgood, and more.

Bernadette also collected a number of insightful anecdotes interacting with hundreds of high-profile guests during those caffeine-charged years, from media, show business, and politics—many as quirky, ego-driven, and neurotic as her talk show host bosses.

LOREN SHOOK - CEO OF SENIOR LIVING PROVIDER DISCUSSES NEW BOOK: “NEW POSSIBILITIES IN MEMORY CARE: THE SILVERADO STORY”

HOW INNOVATION AND RESEARCH COULD CHANGE THE TREATMENT OF ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, every 66 seconds someone in the U.S. develops Alzheimer’s disease, which is the most common form of dementia.  Although there is no cure, there is hope: new studies show there are techniques to enhance the quality of life and slow the progression of the disease.

Mr. Loren Shook, Chairman and Co-Founder of Silverado, a senior living provider, has seen Alzheimer’s up close.  He is sharing his learnings in a new book New Possibilities in Memory Care: The Silverado Story which seeks to provide hope to families affected by Alzheimer’s and other memory-impairing conditions by sharing inspiring stories of lives transformed. The book also discusses the latest ways memory care is delivered. Specifically, research has identified six modifiable lifestyle factors that have been shown to slow the progression of dementia and even delay onset. Two years ago, Silverado launched Nexus, a unique program for early-stage dementia residents based on these findings.  The components of the program, which are described in the book, are proving to slow the progression and ease the symptoms of dementia.

SARA TERRY FROM BROOKDALE SENIOR LIVING INC. - SAFETY TIPS FOR HOSTING SENIOR RELATIVES THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

GRANDMA COMING TO YOUR HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS?
Safety Tips for Hosting Senior Relatives this Holiday Season

The holiday season is in full swing, and many Americans will host family and friends of all ages this December. A good host goes the extra mile to make every guest comfortable, and that is even more important for seniors.  Falls are one of the most common and dangerous injuries for Americans 65 years and older. In fact, according to the National Council on Aging, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall every 11 seconds, and every 19 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall.

If you’re playing host to seniors this month, there are a few extra steps you should take to make your home as safe and welcoming as it can be. On Dec. 13, senior living expert Sara Terry will be available to offer tips for your listeners. In this segment, she will expand on the following:
Clear Clutter: Indoor items that can pose a hazard, such as accent rugs and power cords; plus outdoor debris on pathways.

Add Light: The best wattage for entry lights, and best placement of nightlights.
Avoid Stairs: For overnight guests, a main floor room is key to safety. If stairs are a must, there are ways to ensure they’re more visible.

Dementia Dining: Keep in mind the visual and physical changes that people living with dementia experience. Use contrasting colors on the table, prepare foods of varying colors, eliminate distracting centerpieces or elaborate decorations.

11/27 ELLEN MARIE FRANCISCO, GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO COUNTY JAIL

GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO COUNTY JAIL
Millions of viewers have made the television series “Orange is the New Black” a pop culture sensation, but Ellen Marie Francisco has no interest in watching it or reading the memoir, by Piper Kerman, which spawned the hit show.

Francisco has lived her own version of “Orange is the New Black,” an experience she refers to as “innocent in oranges.” “Oranges” is prison jargon for the orange jump suits worn by prisoners who have been charged but who have not yet been to trial, Francisco explains.

Francisco, an author and entrepreneur, describes her experience behind bars in her latest book, GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO COUNTY JAIL. A gripping and candid tale of her journey through three California jails for women, GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO COUNTY JAIL also serves as a resource guide for navigating the legal thickets necessary to surviving what Francisco dubs the “Incarcer Nation”.

GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO COUNTY JAIL “is a call to action to remedy the lack of support for pre-sentenced women sitting in jails across America who are not educated enough to understand what they’re negotiating in the courtroom,” Francisco explains, “and for the women who don’t realize how close they already are to the courthouse steps.”

Francisco was arrested in 2013 in Lake Arrowhead, California and charged with carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon and robbery after an incident involving her impounded car. The charges were ultimately dropped, but not before Francisco had served nearly two months in three county jails. While locked up, she talked to hundreds of women “each on a different path without a definitive end, each living with the certain fear that they were not in control of their own lives.”

Those conversations became the nucleus of GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO COUNTY JAIL.

11/10 NATIONAL COMMANDER OF THE AMERICAN LEGION DENISE H. ROHAN PROMOTES ‘FAMILY FIRST’ AGENDA

NATIONAL COMMANDER OF THE AMERICAN LEGION DENISE H. ROHAN PROMOTES ‘FAMILY FIRST’ AGENDA

U.S. Army veteran Denise H. Rohan made history on Aug. 24 when she became the first woman to be elected to the top position of the nation’s largest veteran’s organization during The American Legion’s 99th National Convention. Her theme for her year: “Family First!”

Among issues that The American Legion hopes people will focus on:

  • This year marks the 100th anniversary of the U.S. entry into World War I. Following the war, The American Legion was founded by a group of World War I veterans in Paris and dedicated itself to the four pillars of providing a strong national defense; care and rehabilitative programs for veterans; patriotic programs for young people; and Americanism.
  • The American Legion Family is playing a vital role in helping communities recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey. Families inside and outside The American Legion desperately need assistance. The American Legion has many assistance programs but public unity and attention are essential in this rebuilding effort.
  • Thousands of veterans struggle daily to overcome the hardships inflicted by traumatic brain injury, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other signature wounds of war
  • The Harry W Colmery “Forever” GI Bill has many improved benefits that eligible veterans may not be aware of. The American Legion played a crucial role in the crafting of this and earlier versions of this landmark legislation.
  • Reforming the VA health care system is not just a task, but a continuing process that will only improve if Americans hold their elected officials accountable and demand that veterans be treated with the dignity and respect that they have earned.
  • The best way for employers to thank a veteran is to hire one. By providing jobs, employers can help eliminate veteran homelessness.
To maintain a strong volunteer military, America should provide a high quality of life for military members and their families, and the training, technology and weapons needed to prevail against any enemy.

Veterans are a vital part of communities across the nation.  American Legion programs such as Operation Comfort Warriors, Boys State, Boys Nation, American Legion Baseball, Oratorical Scholarship contests, blood donations and the National Emergency Fund benefit and touch countless lives.

The American Legion is the nation’s largest veterans’ service organization, with about two million members and 13,000 posts worldwide, whose members are involved in community-based support of veterans, service members and their families. The American Legion is strongly committed to helping veterans and military families with its outreach programs and lobbying efforts, as a new generation of returning veterans reintegrate into the community.

10/30 CINDY FORNELLI, MAIN STREET INVESTOR’ REPORT, JODI GRANT & SAGE LEARN, THE IMPORTANCE OF AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS, ISAAC FLANAGAN, TIPS ON HOW TO BREATH EASIER AT HOME

CINDY FORNELLI - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, THE CENTER FOR AUDIT QUALITY - MAIN STREET INVESTOR’ REPORT

EVEN THOUGH PEOPLE IN YOUR AREA ARE MORE CONFIDENT NOW IN U.S. MARKETS THAN AT ANY TIME IN OVER A DECADE, THEY’RE ALSO CLOSELY WATCHING POLITICAL ISSUES—INCLUDING TAX REFORM!

Center for Audit Quality releases latest ‘Main Street Investor’ report

America’s investors are more confident now in the nation’s capital markets—and about investing in U.S. publicly traded companies—than at any time in more than a decade.  And, those investors are keeping a close eye on tax-reform efforts and other political issues.

That’s according to the “11th Annual ‘Main Street Investor’ Survey”, from the Center for Audit Quality (CAQ)—which will be released towards the end of this week.

The CAQ’s executive director, Cindy Fornelli, says:  “Our survey has revealed the solid trust that Americans place in domestic capital markets—through a variety of market conditions, over the years.  This year, 85 percent of investors express confidence in the capital markets—while 83 percent are confident about investing in publicly traded companies—both of which are record highs.  In addition, 78 percent are confident in the audited financial information that’s released by those companies.  Our respondents also say that political actions taken by the White House or Congress—along with changes to tax policy—are the factors most likely to affect their investment decisions, over the coming year.  They also express concerns about the rising federal debt, global political unrest, and cyberattacks on our financial markets.”

The survey of a thousand investors was conducted in late September.  For the full results—and more information—visit thecaq.org.  The Washington, D.C.-based CAQ is an autonomous public-policy organization that’s dedicated to enhancing investor confidence and public trust in the global capital markets; it’s also affiliated with the American Institute of CPAs.

JODI GRANT, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, AFTERSCHOOL ALLIANCE AND SAGE LEARN, SENIOR DIRECTOR OF GOVERNMENT RELATIONS, BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF AMERICA -  THE IMPORTANCE OF AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Afterschool programs keep kids safe, inspire them to learn and help working families. Participation in afterschool programs has increased in recent years, but the unmet demand is still huge. Today, for every child in an afterschool program, two more are waiting to get in. Unmet demand is especially high in rural communities and communities of concentrated poverty. One in five students in the United States is unsupervised after the school day ends.

Governments, parents, philanthropies, businesses and others support afterschool programs, but investments are frequently under threat; this year, the President proposed a budget that would have eliminated federal funding for afterschool and summer learning programs. While Congress has rejected the call to eliminate afterschool funding, there is still a threat of cuts that could affect 100,000 students.

Afterschool programs provide students many supports, including a safe environment, academically enriching activities, mentors who care about them and who they can look up to, healthy snacks and meals, and opportunities for physical activity. Many programs also provide parents additional opportunities to become more involved in their child’s education and offer supportive services for families.

Launched in October 2000, Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities. This year, 1 million people will join some 8,000 Lights On Afterschool events across the country and at U.S. military bases worldwide on or around this Thursday, October 26.

ISAAC  FLANAGAN, GENERAL MANAGER OF CANOPY - TIPS ON HOW TO BREATH EASIER AT HOME

We spend a lot of time making sure our home’s environment is fresh, but often don’t think about one of the most important sources of “dirty” in our homes - the air that we are breathing. Respiratory irritants and common allergens abound in our homes and can be found in the form of mold spores, fungus, pollen, mites and pet dander.

Though clean air is essential for a family’s health and wellbeing, it is too often overlooked. A staggering 58% of people do not change their home’s air filters when they should — and even worse, one in four Americans have never replaced their air filter. Why? Most underestimate the dangers of indoor pollutants and changing air filters, which many people don’t see or think of, is low on the list when juggling life’s busy responsibilities.

Isaac C. Flanagan talks about tips for improving the health of your home as we enter the fall season. Isaac can help families breathe easier with tips on when and why air filters should be changed as well as give insight to the startling results of the survey conducted by Opinion Research Corporation.

10/27 ACTOR AND GRAMMY AWARD WINNING SINGER JACK JONES

ACTOR AND GRAMMY AWARD WINNING SINGER JACK JONES JOINS THE SHOW!

Jack Jones is one of the greatest singers of all time. A true Singers’ Singer and luminary. A double Grammy winner, Jack performs around the globe to sold-out audiences in venues ranging from Jazz clubs to the London Palladium. Jack Jones is the very definition of a complete and total entertainer. The New York Times raves, “he is arguably the most technically accomplished male pop singer…”. There is only one Jack Jones.

Jack JonesBorn in Hollywood, California, on the night his singer/movie star father, Allan Jones, recorded his hit, “Donkey Serenade”. Jack would make his famous parents ( his mother was the elegant ’30’s actress Irene Hervey) especially proud of their award-winning son for the diversity and breadth of his talent. Jones attended University High School in West Los Angeles, while also studying drama and singing with private teachers chosen by his father. A young athlete, he gave up his track and football team sports to devote himself to serious study of the arts. Uni High was a school attended by teenagers from all economic walks of life. Ever conscious of his privileged life as the son of a famous show business family, he went out of his way to play down this part of his life with his friends, not knowing that after his graduation and parents’ divorce, he would be financially strapped and have to start from scratch like most of the other students.

One of his most memorable experiences while in high school was when one of his friends, Nancy Sinatra, invited her father to sing in the school auditorium. It left an indelible mark that helped shape Jones’ career choice.

Jones’ professional debut was a brief stint as part of his father’s act at the Thunderbird Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas when he was just 19 years old. He went out on his own three weeks later, working odd jobs including as a gas station attendant, to support himself while pursuing his singing career.

His first break came when a demo he recorded for songwriter Don Raye found its way to Capitol Records. While with the label he recorded a few singles and an album, which he admits was mediocre.

Although he eventually left Capitol. One gem from his album, “This Could Be The Start Of Something Big”, caught the attention of a San Francisco club owner who booked him for a three week run at Facks. While performing there, he was discovered by Pete King, a producer and artist for Kapp Records who quickly signed him to the label.

Still working at his “day job” as a gas station attendant when his first album on Kapp was released Jones, while washing a customer’s windshield, was surprised to hear one of his cuts playing on the car radio. He could now legitimately hope that his “day job” days would soon be over.

As his career gained momentum, Jones developed a deep appreciation for well constructed songs that also have emotional appeal. His respect for songs that tell stories with meaning and beauty led him to record works by the greatest balladeers of all time: Sammy Cahn, Jimmy Van Heusen, Cole Porter, the Gershwin’s, Harold Arlen, Michel Legrand and Alan & Marilyn Bergman. He was inspired by great Jazz instrumentalists he discovered during his teen years such as Gerry Mulligan, Clark Terry, Buddy Rich, Bob Brookmeyer, Dave Pell Octet, Marty Paiche Dectet, Shorty Rogers and the Giants, and Count Basie. Jones’ talent and commitment to his art earned him two Grammy’s for “Best Pop Male Vocal Performance” with his singles “Lollipops and Roses” by Anthony Velona and Bacharach/ David’s “Wives and Lovers”. His release, Jack Jones Paints A Tribute To Tony Bennett, was nominated for “Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance”. He was also nominated for “The Impossible Dream” and his recording of “Wives and Lovers” was nominated for “Record of the Year”. His hit records include “The Race Is On”, “Lady”, “Call Me Irresponsible”,and “What I Did For Love”. On April 13, 1989, he was honored with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, close to where his father’s star is located.

He is also renowned as a leading interpreter of musical theater -with acclaimed performances in “Guys and Dolls”, “South Pacific”, “She Loves Me”, and “Pajama Game” . Over the years he has guest-starred on countless episodic and/or comedy television series. Most recently he starred as Don Quixote in Man Of La Mancha in the national tour. Most recently, Jack has completed a guest-starring role in the British comedy film: Cruise Of The Gods.

Admirers of Jones’ talent include artists who influenced him as a young singer: Sinatra who said, “Jack is one of the major singers of our time,” Mel Torme called him “the greatest ‘pure’ singer in the world” and legendary composers Sammy Cahn and Michel Legrand.

In 1971, Jones honored Michel Legrand by recording the first complete vocal album in English of the French composer’s songs. Released by RCA, Jack Jones Sings Michel Legrand is an album which exquisitely showcases the vocalists art and a recording that Jones counts as one of his favorites. In 1997 he recorded New Jack Swing for Honest Entertainment, which introduced Jones to a new generation of fans with hip, swing renditions of “Every Breath You Take”, “Have You Ever Loved A Woman”, Keb Mo’s “Dangerous Mood”, “All Or Nothing At All” and the classic “Mack The Knife”.

With over 50 recorded albums (17 of them chanting Billboard’s Top 20) and consistently sold-out world tours, Jack Jones continues to charm audiences with his wit, sensitivity and vocal power. In addition to a successful recording career, Jones’ impressive credits include film and television roles; an internationally syndicated TV variety show; performances at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the White House. He has also performed and later recorded popular theme songs for film and TV (“Love with a Proper Stranger”, “The Love Boat”).

On his second release for Honest Entertainment, Jack Jones Paints A Tribute To Tony Bennett, Jones pays homage to a friend and an American icon. He counts Bennett among those vocalists who most influenced his style (a small but elite group that includes Mel Torme, Sammy Davis Jr., Billy Eckstien, and Frank Sinatra). Professional relationship aside, Jones and Bennett have been friends since their meeting at Chicago’s Palmer House Hotel in the late 60’s when Jones attended the last show of Bennett’s engagement at the Empire Room, before opening in the same room the following night.

Of his tribute album, which features some of Bennett’s signature songs, Jones says, “This album is my way of saying thanks to a dear friend.” In selecting songs for this album, he chose three of his personal Bennett favorites, “Skylark”, “Shadow Of Your Smile” and “You Must Believe In Spring”.

2008 marks his 50th anniversary in show business! In the early summer of 2008 the world’s most recognized hotel brand, Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts, launched their “M.B.A.” (Master in Business Accommodations) marketing campaign bringing the timeless voice of Jack Jones singing a new recording of “The Love Boat Theme”. Jones also recently shared his voice with a whole new generation when he sang “Boat of Romance” as part of an episode on the Emmy-nominated Disney Channel animated musical television series Phineas and Ferb.

Jack Jones released the next chapter in his long history of making hits, Love Makes the Changes: The Lyrics of Alan and Marilyn Bergman. A tribute to the lives and shared love of Jack’s good friends and celebrated songwriters, Alan and Marilyn Bergman. During their distinguished career, their songs have been nominated for sixteen Academy Awards, for which they have won three: “The Windmills of Your Mind” in 1968, “The Way We Were”: in 1973, and the score for “Yentl” in 1984.

Jack explains the motivation behind the release, “After years of looking for material to record I have finally found it. My dear friends Alan and Marilyn Bergman have had the ideal loving and pure relationship, truly sharing almost every ounce of life. I call them: “THE MASTERS AND JOHNSON OF ROMANCE.” So I wondered, ‘How could they possibly perceive what it feels like when the music doesn’t keep playing?’ Well, on this CD we pay tribute to the most perceptive and creative couple I know. They have inspired me to put many of their wonderful creations into one of my story lines… Each of these song tells part of the story, most of which you and I have lived through. You write your own story as you follow the songs, and even if it doesn’t turn out to be much of a book, it will be one hell of a score.”

This CD is available in iTunes for digital downloads and jackjonesmusic.com for traditional CD media.

Today, Jack can be found performing concerts to sold-out audiences around the globe at performing arts centers, casinos, symphony halls and even intimate cabarets. Jones’ musical perfection and vocal passion unfailingly illustrate why he stands with the luminaries.

10/09 DAWN WELLS JOINS THE SHOW!

09/04 ED HENRY, 42 FAITH, THE REST OF THE JACKIE ROBINSON STORY, MELISSA FRANCIS, FOX NEWS CHANNEL HOST, RISING CABLE STAR, AND AUTHOR OF LESSONS FROM THE PRAIRIE

ED HENRY - BROADCAST JOURNALIST & FOX NEWS CHANNEL'S CHIEF WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT - NEW BOOK: 42 FAITH THE REST OF THE JACKIE ROBINSON STORY

Journalist and baseball lover Ed Henry reveals for the first time the backstory of faith that guided Jackie Robinson into not only the baseball record books but the annals of civil rights advancement as well. Through recently discovered sermons, interviews with Robinson’s family and friends, and even an unpublished book by the player himself, Henry details a side of Jackie’s humanity that few have taken the time to see.

Branch Rickey, the famed owner who risked it all by signing Jackie to his first contract, is also shown as a complex individual who wanted nothing more than to make his God-fearing mother proud of him. Few know the level at which Rickey struggled with his decision, only moving forward after a private meeting with a minister he’d just met. It turns out Rickey was not as certain about signing Robinson as historians have always assumed.

With many baseball stories to enthrall even the most ardent enthusiast, 42 Faith also digs deep into why Jackie was the man he was and what both drove him and challenged him after his retirement.  From his early years before baseball, to his time with Rickey and the Dodgers, to his failing health in his final years, we see a man of faith that few have recognized.

This book will add a whole new dimension to Robinson’s already awe-inspiring legacy.
Yes, Jackie and Branch are both still heroes long after their deaths.  Now, we learn more fully than ever before, there was an assist from God too.

07/28 MIKE AHMADI, SYNOPSYS CYBERSECURITY EXPERT

MIKE AHMADI - CYBERSECURITY EXPERT WITH SYNOPSYS - WHAT BUSINESSES NEED TO DO TO STAY SAFE

CYBERSECURITY: WHAT ARE THE CURRENT THREATS?

Cybersecurity Expert Provides Insights on What Businesses Need to Do to Stay Safe

The world’s dependence on software and internet connectivity keeps growing. Virtually, everything – healthcare systems, online banking, critical parts of our infrastructure, and more rely on software to function. Securing the software that powers our connected world has become paramount, especially as cybercriminals and hackers are finding new ways to steal information and compromise their targets.

Recently, one attack that has gained popularity with cybercriminals is ransomware. In order to get up and running again, the victims of these attacks are being forced to pay a ransom to those who have hacked into their files.  In the first half of this year high profile cases of ransomware like the WannaCry and NotPetya have dominated the headlines. So far in 2017, 12.3 million records have been compromised, including almost 7.5 million within the business sector.  The average cost of a data breach is $3.62 million, representing a 10 percent decrease from 2016, but still astronomical to a thriving business.

Cybersecurity expert Mike Ahmadi will be available on Thursday July 27 to discuss the persistent and growing threat landscape, what’s wrong with the way software is being developed, and the most effective methods for organizations to mitigate risks and do better.

07/10 ROBERT S. GOODMAN, MD - AUTHOR, THE DISCOVERY

A MEDICAL DRAMA UNFOLDS IN THE LEGAL THRILLER THE DISCOVERY

In THE DISCOVERY by Robert S. Goodman and Louis Kraft, a young obstetrician/gynecologist delivers a premature baby after attending a dinner party. The child survives the delivery, but complications lead to a malpractice lawsuit two decades later.

In 1952, a pregnant seventeen-year-old gives birth in a Los Angeles hospital. Two nurses attend to the young woman while they wait for the doctor on call to arrive for the delivery. Dr. Harry Chapman arrives at the hospital clearheaded but with alcohol on his breath. The premature baby is born blue and placed in an incubator. The nurses turn the oxygen to the level recommended to pediatricians for preemies the year before to prevent blindness. When the baby’s color doesn’t change, Harry instructs the nurses to turn the oxygen up to maximum. They protest, but Harry insists that the nurses comply to save the baby from brain damage or death.

In 1972, Greg Weston, a twenty-year-old paralegal meets a young woman who works with a renowned pediatrician. When she questions the attractive young man about his blindness, Greg reveals that his adoptive parents told him he was born blind. After agreeing to see the doctor Gail works for, Greg becomes aware that his blindness may have occurred as a result of physician error. Greg requests his medical records from the hospital and the adoption agency, and he finds that the hospital records tell a different story about what took place after his birth. In both records, Dr. Harry Chapman is indicated as the doctor who delivered him. Greg shares his findings with a partner in his law firm, and they build a case against Dr. Chapman based on fraudulent changes in the hospital records, which allows the statute of limitations to be thrown out.

After Harry receives word that he is being sued, his attorney advises him that the malpractice insurance he carried in 1952 will not cover even a fraction of the multimillion-dollar lawsuit. The stress and uncertainty of the case, along with the accusation of fraud, breaks Harry, leading him down a road of depression and alcohol dependence. As Harry’s wife, Helen, watches her husband deteriorate, she makes an unthinkable choice to put an end to the plaintiff’s case.

In THE DISCOVERY, the authors connect the lives of two individuals across two decades, exposing vulnerabilities, bitterness, and frailties. As the case moves forward, a key witness’s testimony alters the lives of both men.

In writing THE DISCOVERY, Goodman and Kraft’s intentions were to offer readers multidimensional characters with real-world problems and to bring awareness to the severe affect malpractice lawsuits can have on physicians’ professional and personal lives.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Author/historian Louis Kraft has focused his energy on producing work that highlights racism and the human experience of people who have put their lives on the line to prevent war. He has written articles for magazines, including Research Review and Wild West, as well as fiction (The Final Showdown) and nonfiction (Gatewood & Geronimo) books. Kraft returned to fiction writing when he collaborated with Robert S. Goodman on The Discovery.

Robert S. Goodman, MD has been in private practice since 1966, specializing in internal medicine. During his fifty-plus-year career, Goodman has been involved in hospital politics and served as chief of staff at Encino Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Goodman’s experience testifying as an expert witness in defense of hospitals and doctors contributed to his interest in writing The Discovery.

5/29 COLUMNIST AND AUTHOR JEFF CROUERE, TIM ALLEN IS NO LONGER THE LAST MAN STANDING

COLUMNIST AND AUTHOR JEFF CROUERE

Trump Analyst: Jeff Crouere (Crew-Air), Is A Columnist And Author Of The Timely New Book America's Last Chance. Jeff Is A Former Trump Delegate From Louisiana And The State Co-Chair For The La Trump Campaign. Jeff is the host and publisher of Ringside Politics live from The Big Easy on WGSO 990 in New Orleans LA. Crouere is also host of Ringside, a television version of the radio program, which airs on WLAE-TV, a PBS affiliate in New Orleans.

TIM ALLEN IS NO LONGER THE LAST MAN STANDING
Unfortunately, broadcast television networks today are not interested in appealing to the massive Trump electorate

Despite healthy ratings, ABC promptly cancelled Tim Allen’s popular sitcom, Last Man Standing this week. The show was a successful part of the ABC line-up for six years.  While some media reports claim that ABC cancelled the show due to poor ratings, the truth is that the program was the second highest rated comedy and the third highest rated “scripted” show on the network. In fact, during the final years of the show, Last Man Standing drew an impressive average of 8.1 million viewers each week.

Allen’s real crime was not poor ratings, but having the audacity to announce he was a conservative. He understood the challenge he faced in Hollywood. In an interview with ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel, Allen lamented that "You gotta be real careful around here. You get beat up if you don't believe what everybody else believes. This is like '30s Germany." Allen is not the only actor to be ostracized due to his beliefs. Jim Caviezel faced a backlash for starring in the Mel Gibson film, “The Passion of the Christ.” Caviezel did a masterful job playing Jesus Christ, the role of his lifetime. Instead of his peers praising his work and showering him with job opportunities, Caviezel became an unwanted commodity in Hollywood. In an interview with Polish journalist and film critic Lukasz Adamski, Caviezel noted that after the movie, “All of the sudden I stopped being one of the five most popular actors in the studio and I hadn’t done anything wrong, I just played Jesus.” Unfortunately for the small band of conservatives in Hollywood, the industry treats them like they are infected with the Bubonic Plague. Caviezel and Allen are joined by a select group of courageous conservatives such as Jon Voight, Cheryl Ladd, Bo Derek, James Woods and a few others, but, overall, Hollywood is a monolithic community controlled by extreme liberals.

Most conservatives do not speak up for fear it may end their career. Woods knew he was endangering his job prospects in 2013 when he spoke out against President Obama’s liberal policies. After Woods stood on principle and expressed his political views, sadly, he has all but disappeared from the big screen. For decades, there has been a liberal groupthink in Hollywood; however, in recent years, it has become even more pronounced. This community strongly supported Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, holding glitzy fundraisers and raising massive contributions for the Democrat Party.
