10/26 Erin Moriarty, 48 Hours, Jimmy Mac, Lee Klien, Football, Handicapping, Gossip Brigade

It's the Weekend Edition of the
PM Show with Mike Horn!

Correspondent for "48 Hours" Erin Moriarty
gives us a sneak peak at tomorrows show...

Erin Moriarty has been a correspondent for "48 Hours" since 1990. She has covered the death of Princess Diana, the JonBenet Ramsey investigation, the murder of financier Edmund Safra, and the war in Iraq. Before that, Moriarty was the consumer correspondent for "CBS This Morning" (1986-90) and the "CBS Evening News with Dan Rather" in 1990.

Drawing on her training as an attorney, Moriarty has examined some of the most important social and legal issues of the day, including DNA testing of evidence in death-row cases, the abortion controversy and battered women's syndrome. She covered the Oklahoma City bombing, the Columbine High School shootings and the 9/11 investigation, overseas. Her exclusive behind-the-scenes report on the defense of convicted Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh was broadcast on "60 Minutes" in 1997.

Moriarty has received numerous honors, including nine national Emmy Awards, a 2001 Overseas Press Club Award for her work on "48 Hours" and two Association of Women in Radio and Television Gracie Allen Awards for the weekly talk show that she co-hosted with Nancy Giles on WPHT Radio in Philadelphia (2003-04). In both 2000 and 2003, she was honored with the Top 100 Award from Irish America magazine. In 1988, Moriarty received the Outstanding Consumer Media Service Award presented by the Consumer Federation of America for "her many contributions of both local and national significance as a consumer reporter."

Prior to joining CBS News in 1986, she was an award winning consumer reporter for the NBC Owned and Operated WMAQ-TV Chicago (1983-86). She was also a reporter in Columbus (Ohio) at the NBC affiliate WCMH-TV (1979-80), Baltimore at the CBS affiliate WJZ-TV (1980-82) and Cleveland at CBS affiliate WJKW-TV (1982-83).

Moriarty was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and raised in Columbus, Ohio. She was graduated from Ohio State University, Phi Beta Kappa, with a degree in behavioral sciences and received a law degree from the university in 1977. Moriarty is licensed to practice law in Ohio and Maryland.

Then Jimmy Mac and Lee Klien join in
for some football handicapping!

Former bookie Jimmy Mac is a native of Jersey (“The only state which you don’t have to say the ‘New!’” as he’s fond of saying) and grew up with the real Sopranos. He even dated at least one of their daughters. His father owned a horsemeat slaughterhouse, so Jimmy is an expert with the ponies – though is still awaiting an endorsement deal from PETA. An accomplished wordsmith, he was excited to get into the publishing world but then found out what “bookmaking” really means. Nevertheless, it was a fateful miscommunication as he quickly discovered that his true talent was predicting the outcomes of sporting events. He is both feared and revered in Las Vegas, where he still receives comps from some of the best casinos in town. Though now retired from the bookmaking business, he runs a very successful light bulb distribution company and every week watches more college and professional football games than are actually played.

10/15 Elizabeth Shatner, Richard Sterban

ELIZABETH SHATNER FILLS US IN ON A FEW PROJECTS SHE'S WORKING ON...

ART BY NATURE:
ELIZABETH SHATNER, Photographer/ Digital Artist, presents “Art by Nature”. Elizabeth Shatner, wife of actor William Shatner, will be the first to tell you, she never really had the passion for photography... but always a true lover of nature, with the intrinsic vision and the good fortune to see and appreciate the beauty nature has created. Over ten years ago, she had the opportunity to travel on a photo safari with Bill (a camera equipment aficionado) and two nationally known photographers, Joanne Kalish and Joe DiMaggio. Those weeks were instrumental in Elizabeth’s journey to familiarity with a digital camera and the path to photography.

Elizabeth is a professional equine judge and former professional horsewoman. She has always had an infatuation with nature – searching for shells, four leaf clovers and beautiful horses. She states that the activity of looking for a specific artistic shot resembles judging a horse show. It’s rewarding to observe nature’s beauty, and to share her vision and interpretation with others through her work.
Elizabeth refers to her body of work as “Art by Nature.” Her images of flowers have been compared to the sensuous flower paintings by renowned artist Georgia O’Keefe. Nature is the foundation, and the outline for the collection. She discovers the art within the frame (usually macro), and uses digital technology to create the final product on canvas, tile, watercolor paper or other mediums. The end result is abstract and resembles an oil painting or water color. A gift of yellow roses to her mother on her 84th birthday inspired one of Elizabeth’s early pieces. She examines the heart shape of the flower’s pistil, what she calls her “Florshach” test, a play on words inspired by the famous psychological “Rorschach” blot test. Elizabeth’s passion is to capture the artistic lines of natural light. She focuses on capturing an image that bestows the feelings of spirituality, well being, and fun (which matches her personality); and to share nature’s beauty as gifs to those that view the Art of Nature.

"All Glory to the souls that serve, Human and Animal alike." -- Elizabeth Shatner

RICHARD STERBAN JOINS US TO TALK ABOUT HIS NEW BOOK: FROM ELVIS TO ELVIRA: MY LIFE ON STAGE...

Richard Anthony Sterban (born April 24, 1943) is an American bass singer born in Camden, New Jersey, who joined the country and gospel quartet The Oak Ridge Boys in 1972. Prior to joining The Oak Ridge Boys, Sterban toured with J. D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, who were singing backup for Elvis Presley at that time. Sterban ultimately became famous for his "oom-pa-pa-oom-pa-pa-mau-mau" bass solo in the Oak Ridge Boys' 1981 smash hit, "Elvira", in which he performs a G2-C2 drop in the second chorus.

Some of his other low notes include a C#2 in "Jesus Is Coming Soon" and his lowest recorded note, Eb1, in "I'm Working On A Building".

Sterban grew up in Collingswood, New Jersey and now lives in Hendersonville, Tennessee with his wife, Donna, and two daughters, Lauren and Tori. Richard also has three sons from a previous marriage: Rich, Doug and Chris; and several grandchildren including Tyler Sterban.

Sterban has recorded public service announcements for NOAA Weather Radio. He served as the voice of The Roadhouse, the classic country Sirius Satellite Radio channel. Sterban was a minority owner of the Nashville Sounds minor league baseball team, the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, from 1978 to 2008.

PARTNERS is a comedy based on the lives of creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick, about two life-long best friends and business partners whose “bromance” is tested when one of them is engaged to be married.  Joe played by David Krumholtz is an accomplished architect who leads with his head and not his heart, especially in his love life.  That’s in stark contrast to his gay co-worker, Louis, who is spontaneous, emotional and prone to exaggeration.  Both have found joy in their love lives: Joe is newly engaged to Ali, a beautiful and sophisticated jewelry designer, and Louis’ companion is Wyatt, a vegan nurse who Louis insists is just a promotion away from becoming a doctor.  As news of Joe’s engagement settles, time will tell if their business and personal bond can adapt to the addition of two other important relationships.
