07/01 Shamron Moore, Hollywood Strip

Author, Shamron Moore joins Mike Horn on The Entertainment Edition of The PM Show to talk about her new book, Hollywood Strip!

New Novel, HOLLYWOOD STRIP, Follows An Ambitious Actress Who
Discovers That The Hollywood Life Is Not So Glamorous After All

“Hollywood Strip doesn’t suffer from the constant label-naming of some contemporary women’s fiction, and fans of Cecily von Ziegesar and Lauren Weisberger will adore this insider’s view of an aspiring actress’ struggles and successes. It’s the first in a new series, so expect more witty, racy tales from Moore.” —Booklist

“Does for Hollywood what Sex and the City did for New York, and the Boulevard of Broken Dreams will never be the same. So hot the pages will singe your fingers.” —William Martin, New York Times bestselling author of The Lincoln Letter

Hollywood, CA - Callie Lambert is a small town girl from Michigan. Sexy, beautiful, ambitious, and bored, she decides to pack her bags and trade that boredom for the excitement of Los Angeles.

Auditioning in her free time and working as a waitress to pay her bills, Callie relentlessly pursues her big break, taking every opportunity that comes up. Through a series of dramatic and scandalous events, Callie finally hits the big time as the lead in the film Nympho Cheerleaders Attack! and it feels like everything is coming together for her–until she runs into betrayal, jealousy, love, and murder. Quickly, Callie finds out that life as a starlet on the rise is not nearly as glamorous as she once imagined.

Author Shamron Moore based much of HOLLYWOOD STRIP on her very own showbiz experiences. With the proceeds from her first print ad, Moore made good on her dream of leaving her Michigan hometown for the bright lights of Hollywood. For almost eight years, she worked as a
model and actress, appearing in national commercials, international publications, TV shows, and feature films. But four years ago, things changed.

“I thought I had my life mapped out, and several years later realized I was bored! I wanted to use my brain, and I was tired of other people calling the shots. It was just unfulfilling. I’d changed and grown and it was a natural evolution. So I left the industry because I was at a crossroads.”

Moore says that she was inspired by reading Jacqueline Susann’s 1966 novel Valley of the Dolls. “I’m a fan of the late actress Sharon Tate, and have seen all her films. When I saw the film Valley of the Dolls, I loved it–it was so ridiculously bad it was fabulous, so I had to read the book. After lots of soul searching, the idea came to me: I can write a novel!  I can spin a juicy yarn and I have a lot of experiences I can rely on to entertain people. That’s when I decided to write a novel myself.”

HOLLYWOOD STRIP is intended as the first of a series. It took Moore a little over a year to write, she explains, adding that, “It’s not rooted in materialism–at its heart it’s not about Gucci and Fendi. Of course there are some references–I’m a woman, after all!–but it’s a little gritty–much more sarcastic and irreverent than some of the other chick lit out there.”

She wants HOLLYWOOD STRIP to entertain readers, Moore says, but there’s also a lesson to take away: “Fame and fortune may be fine and well, but ultimately it’s all about love. I want readers to come away feeling grateful for the love they have in their own lives.”
