07/12 Dick Gautier, The Hollywood Show

Richard "Dick" Gautier (born October 30, 1931) is an actor, comedian, composer, singer and author. Among his most well-known television roles are for Hymie the Robot in the television series Get Smart, and Robin Hood in the short-lived TV comedy series When Things Were Rotten, a Mel Brooks send-up of the classic legend.

Gaultier also has a cult following for his role as Hal, the partner of Stanley Beamish in the short-lived 1967 sitcom series Mister Terrific; and for his various voice roles in the 1986 animated Transformers series (including the voice Rodimus Prime).

Early career: Gautier started his career as a night-club comic and a singer for dance orchestras; he joined ASCAP in 1959 after serving in the United States Navy. In 1960, he portrayed fictional rock 'n roll star Conrad Birdie in the original Broadway theatre production of Bye Bye Birdie, receiving a Tony Award nomination for his performance.[citation needed] He appeared in an Episode of The Patty Duke Show Episode "Anywhere I Hang My Horn Is Home". He also portrayed the clumsy robot "Hymie" on TV's Get Smart. He portrayed a dance instructor in the original TV series, Gidget.

As a game show panelist:
During the 1970s and 1980s, Gautier was a frequent game show panelist, appearing on Match Game, Tattletales, Showoffs, You Don't Say!, Liar's Club, Password Plus, Body Language, Super Password, Win, Lose or Draw, and the TV version of Can You Top This?. He also briefly tried his hand at emceeing on the early 1970s celebrity couples game It's Your Bet. In 1985, he appeared with Days of our Lives star Gloria Loring, Shelley Smith, Vicki Lawrence, Mary Cadorette, Dallas star Jenilee Harrison, and Knots Landing star Constance McCashin for the Tournament Of Losers with Bert Convy on Super Password.

Batman: In 1972, when Burt Ward and Yvonne Craig reprised their Batman roles (as Robin and Batgirl respectively) for a TV public service announcement about equal pay for women, Adam West (who was trying to distance himself from the Batman role at the time) was absent. Instead, Gautier filled in for West as Batman.

Voice-over roles:
Gautier has performed several voice-over roles in animation, including Rodimus Prime in the third season of the Transformers animated series from 1986–1987 (taking over for Judd Nelson, who previously performed the role in the 1986 Transformers movie), as well as Serpentor in the G.I. Joe series, played Spike the Dog in Tom and Jerry Kids, and he was also narrator for Discovery Channel's Search for Adventure.

Caricatures of celebrities:
He is known for his caricatures of celebrities, and has written several instructional books on caricature, drawing, and cartooning, including Drawing and Cartooning 1001 Caricatures, Drawing and Cartooning 1001 Figures in Action and Creating Comic Characters.

07/08 Merrilee Rush, The Hollywood Show

Merrilee Rush (born Merrilee Gunst, January 26, 1944, Seattle, Washington) is an American singer, best known for her recording of the song "Angel of the Morning", a Top 10 hit which earned her a Grammy nomination for female vocalist of the year in 1968.

Rush grew up in Seattle's North End, and studied classical piano from a young age. In 1960, she auditioned and became the singer for the Amazing Aztecs, a Seattle-area rock & roll band led by saxophone player Neil Rush, whom she would later marry. The two went on to form Merrilee and Her Men, doing mostly cover versions of pop hits, and then joined rhythm and blues group Tiny Tony and the Statics, whose regional hit "Hey Mrs. Jones", on the Bolo label, featured Rush's keyboard playing and vocals.

In 1965 the pair formed Merrilee Rush and the Turnabouts, who soon became a popular act on the Pacific Northwest's teen dancehall circuit. A member of the group's road crew also worked for Paul Revere and the Raiders, and through this connection, Rush was invited to be the opening act on the Raiders' tour of the southern United States in 1967. While in Memphis, Tennessee, Raiders lead vocalist Mark Lindsay introduced Rush to record producer Chips Moman.

Rush's version of "Angel of the Morning" was recorded at Moman's American Studio in Memphis in early 1968, and was produced by Moman and Tommy Cogbill. Released by Bell Records in late June 1968, the song climbed to #7 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, and was a major hit in several other countries as well. The one millionth sale of this record was reported by the Recording Industry Association of America (R.I.A.A.) in 1970. Although credited to 'Merrilee Rush and the Turnabouts', both the single and subsequent album (also called Angel Of The Morning) were recorded using the same musicians who played on Elvis Presley's famous Memphis recordings.
"Angel of the Morning" garnered Rush a Grammy Award nomination for best Contemporary Pop Female Vocalist of the year. She was nominated along with Barbra Streisand ("Funny Girl"), Dionne Warwick ("Do You Know the Way to San Jose"), Aretha Franklin ("I Say a Little Prayer"), and Mary Hopkin ("Those Were the Days"). Warwick was the eventual winner.

Rush appeared on numerous television programs in the 1960s and 1970s, including American Bandstand, The Joey Bishop Show, Happening, The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour, The Everly Brothers Show, and Something Else hosted by John Byner. In 1984, she appeared as herself, performing the holiday favorite "White Christmas," in the syndicated Christmas special titled Scrooge's Rock and Roll Christmas, which starred Jack Elam as Ebenezer Scrooge. That program also featured holiday performances by Three Dog Night, Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Association, Bobby Goldsboro, Mike Love of The Beach Boys, Dean Torrence of Jan and Dean, and Mary MacGregor.

The song "Angel of the Morning" was written and composed by the songwriter Chip Taylor (né James Wesley Voight, the younger brother of the actor Jon Voight and the uncle of the actress Angelina Jolie). Taylor had also written and composed "Wild Thing," a hit for The Troggs in 1966, and "I Can't Let Go," a hit for The Hollies in the United Kingdom. Rush's recording of "Angel of the Morning" was featured prominently in the movie Girl, Interrupted, for which Jolie won an Academy Award. "Angel of the Morning" has also been featured in the major motion pictures Jerry Maguire and Fingers (starring Harvey Keitel).

Merrilee Rush and the Turnabouts released one more single on Bell, "That Kind of Woman", in 1968; the following year, now formally a solo artist, she released four more singles ("Reach Out", "Everyday Livin' Days", "Sign On for the Good Times", and "Angel on my Shoulder") on the Chips Moman-run Bell subsidiary, AGP Records. In 1971, Rush signed with Scepter Records and released one single, a cover of the Carole King song, "Child Of Mine". While that was Rush's lone release on Scepter, she cut several tracks for the label including a femme version of the Billy Joel song "She's Got A Way" (He's Got A Way). In 1976 Rush signed with United Artists Records, who released three singles: "Could It Be Love I Found Tonight," "Save Me," and "Rainstorm." Her self-titled album for United Artists was released in 1977.

By the turn of the 20th to 21st century, Rush was living in the countryside near Seattle, Washington, in a century-old farmhouse that was built by her grandfather. She continued to perform with her own band in rock and roll nostalgia shows across the country. She is married to singer-songwriter and entertainer Billy Mac, and together they have a successful Old English Sheepdog breeding business.

In 1989, the Northwest Area Musicians' Association (NAMA) honored Rush with membership in the NAMA Hall of Fame.

In 2003, Rush appeared in the PBS special At the Drive-In along with Jan Berry and Dean Torrence (of Jan and Dean), Fabian, Bobby Vee, Chris Montez, Dodie Stevens, and Matthew and Gunnar Nelson (the sons of Ricky Nelson).

Rush's Angel Of The Morning album has been re-published on compact disc via the Rev-Ola record label. The re-issue includes the entire original 1968 LP, and it features the Top Ten title track and the follow-up single "That Kind of Woman," as well as nine non-LP album singles and B-sides as bonus tracks. The bonus tracks include a psychedelic version of the Four Tops' "Reach Out" (an AGP label single release that reached #79 on the Billboard Hot 100), and a cover of Burt Bacharach's "What the World Needs Now," which was produced by Quincy Jones for the soundtrack album to the film Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice. All tracks are also available digitally from the Arista/Legacy label.

Be sure to attend THE HOLLYWOOD SHOW, where Merrilee Rush will be appearing July 12-14, 2013

07/05 Shamron Moore, Hollywood Strip, Steve Evans, The Movie Guy

Author, Shamron Moore joins Mike Horn on The Entertainment Edition of The PM Show to talk about her new book, Hollywood Strip!

New Novel, HOLLYWOOD STRIP, Follows An Ambitious Actress Who
Discovers That The Hollywood Life Is Not So Glamorous After All

“Hollywood Strip doesn’t suffer from the constant label-naming of some contemporary women’s fiction, and fans of Cecily von Ziegesar and Lauren Weisberger will adore this insider’s view of an aspiring actress’ struggles and successes. It’s the first in a new series, so expect more witty, racy tales from Moore.” —Booklist

“Does for Hollywood what Sex and the City did for New York, and the Boulevard of Broken Dreams will never be the same. So hot the pages will singe your fingers.” —William Martin, New York Times bestselling author of The Lincoln Letter

Hollywood, CA - Callie Lambert is a small town girl from Michigan. Sexy, beautiful, ambitious, and bored, she decides to pack her bags and trade that boredom for the excitement of Los Angeles.

Auditioning in her free time and working as a waitress to pay her bills, Callie relentlessly pursues her big break, taking every opportunity that comes up. Through a series of dramatic and scandalous events, Callie finally hits the big time as the lead in the film Nympho Cheerleaders Attack! and it feels like everything is coming together for her–until she runs into betrayal, jealousy, love, and murder. Quickly, Callie finds out that life as a starlet on the rise is not nearly as glamorous as she once imagined.

Author Shamron Moore based much of HOLLYWOOD STRIP on her very own showbiz experiences. With the proceeds from her first print ad, Moore made good on her dream of leaving her Michigan hometown for the bright lights of Hollywood. For almost eight years, she worked as a
model and actress, appearing in national commercials, international publications, TV shows, and feature films. But four years ago, things changed.

“I thought I had my life mapped out, and several years later realized I was bored! I wanted to use my brain, and I was tired of other people calling the shots. It was just unfulfilling. I’d changed and grown and it was a natural evolution. So I left the industry because I was at a crossroads.”

Moore says that she was inspired by reading Jacqueline Susann’s 1966 novel Valley of the Dolls. “I’m a fan of the late actress Sharon Tate, and have seen all her films. When I saw the film Valley of the Dolls, I loved it–it was so ridiculously bad it was fabulous, so I had to read the book. After lots of soul searching, the idea came to me: I can write a novel!  I can spin a juicy yarn and I have a lot of experiences I can rely on to entertain people. That’s when I decided to write a novel myself.”

HOLLYWOOD STRIP is intended as the first of a series. It took Moore a little over a year to write, she explains, adding that, “It’s not rooted in materialism–at its heart it’s not about Gucci and Fendi. Of course there are some references–I’m a woman, after all!–but it’s a little gritty–much more sarcastic and irreverent than some of the other chick lit out there.”

She wants HOLLYWOOD STRIP to entertain readers, Moore says, but there’s also a lesson to take away: “Fame and fortune may be fine and well, but ultimately it’s all about love. I want readers to come away feeling grateful for the love they have in their own lives.”
