Cybersecurity Expert Provides Insights on What Businesses Need to Do to Stay Safe
The world’s dependence on software and internet connectivity keeps growing. Virtually, everything – healthcare systems, online banking, critical parts of our infrastructure, and more rely on software to function. Securing the software that powers our connected world has become paramount, especially as cybercriminals and hackers are finding new ways to steal information and compromise their targets.Recently, one attack that has gained popularity with cybercriminals is ransomware. In order to get up and running again, the victims of these attacks are being forced to pay a ransom to those who have hacked into their files. In the first half of this year high profile cases of ransomware like the WannaCry and NotPetya have dominated the headlines. So far in 2017, 12.3 million records have been compromised, including almost 7.5 million within the business sector. The average cost of a data breach is $3.62 million, representing a 10 percent decrease from 2016, but still astronomical to a thriving business.
