12/8- Dick Cavett
Dick Cavett - Talk Show: Confrontations, Pointed Commentary, and Off-Screen Secrets
The erstwhile host of The Dick Cavett Show unburdens himself in this collection of rambling though piquant essays from his New York Times online column. It' s an eclectic and sometimes surprising lineup: on- and off-set celebrity anecdotes; meditations on the art of the comic insult; jaundiced assessments of the 2008 presidential contenders; not one but two apologias for radio DJ Don Imus; scenes from a Nebraska boyhood, with minor hooliganism and encounters with a movie-house pervert. Cavett occasionally lets his affable host' s persona slip to voice idiosyncratic passions, in his plea to ban fat actors from TV commercials, for example, and his snipes at public figures for language mistakes and mispronunciations (he reviles George W. Bush almost as much for saying nucular as for starting the Iraq War). Some pieces misfire, especially when Cavett overuses transcripts from his shows; even the celebrated trash talk showdown between guests Gore Vidal and Norman Mailer lies flat on the printed page. But in his beguiling profiles of celebrities--the deft magician Slydini; the humbled gossip columnist Walter Winchell; an aging John Wayne, who reveals an unheralded appreciation for Noël Coward plays--Cavett proves himself a solid writer as well as a talker.

Jeanie Buss-Laker Girl
Jeanie Buss – Lakers’ Executive Vice President of Business Operations, franchise mainstay and daughter of team owner Jerry Buss – just released Laker Girl, the never-before-told story of the Buss family and of one woman’s rise to the top in a man’s world. It is also a behind-the-scenes journal of the 2009–10 Lakers season, a year in which the franchise captured its 16th world championship.
One of the most influential women in professional sports, Jeanie’s business accomplishments only begin to tell the tale of her incredible journey. In true Hollywood fashion, Jeanie eventually found love where she least expected: with Phil Jackson, the Lakers’ head coach and one of the most successful coaches in NBA history. Along the way, she’s rubbed elbows with everyone from Michael Jordan, John McEnroe, and Shaquille O’Neal to Khloe Kardashian, Hugh Hefner, and Jack Nicholson. And she’s done it all in her own unique, inimitable style.

Will be talking about his Las Vegas appearance.
Charlie Chaplin. Groucho Marx. Richard Pryor.
Over the past century, few entertainers have achieved the legendary status of William H. Cosby Jr. His successes span five decades and virtually all media, remarkable accomplishments for a kid who emerged from humble beginnings in a Philly project.
In the 1960s, his stand-up act was a coast-to-coast sensation, spawning a string of hilarious, best-selling comedy albums, which went on to win eight Gold Records, five Platinum records and five Grammy Awards. His role on TV’s I Spy made him the first African-American to co-star in a dramatic series, breaking television’s racial barrier and winning three Emmy Awards. In the 1980s, he again rocked the television world with the The Cosby Show, a gentle, whimsical and hugely successful series that single-handedly revived the family sitcom (and rescued NBC).
With hit movies like Uptown Saturday Night and best-selling books like Fatherhood, Bill Cosby is quite simply a national treasure with the unique ability to touch people’s hearts.
Scott St. James began his acting career with a role in Heart Of A Champion: The Ray Mancini Story. Since then, he has appeared in dozens of motion pictures and TV series including Everybody Loves Raymond, ER and Jimmy Kimmel Live! His national television commercial credits include roles for American Express, Pepsi and Honda Motor Company. A true renaissance man, Scott began his career as an award-winning radio personality, enjoying tremendous success at stations all across the country, including St. Louis powerhouse KMOX and KMPC and KIIS-FM in Los Angeles, working with legendary personalities Robert W. Morgan and Rick Dees. Along the way he picked up multiple Golden Mike and Mark Twain Awards for commentary writing. His daily morning commentaries on Arrow 93FM covered a broad spectrum of topics from sports to entertainment to politics, and over a period of nine years, raised an eyebrow or two. In the 80’s, Scott was also the on-camera Sports Director at LA’s KCAL-TV, Channel 9. Contact Scott St. James via e-mail: scottstjames@sbcglobal.net

Mark Wilbur-CEO Employers/Incoming BizFed Chair for 2011
David Fleming, BizFed Founding Chair
BizFed recently went on a tour of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta - and saw the crumbling/aging infrastructure, the environmental issues, the vulnerability to earthquakes, the sinking farmland, etc. That area provides nearly 40 percent of SoCAL drinking water - without it, we're in bad, bad shape. NOW, with the new Legislature - a big push will be crafting a new bond for the 2012 ballot (since the last one was pulled off the Nov ballot). And there is lots of work to be done to educate, inform lawmakers/all and then execute on proposed measures to both protect the enviro up there AND the economy through keeping water flowing down here. There ALSO now is a proposal for TUNNELS to carry water down to SoCal. THIS is being considered because of all the dustup previously over "peripheral canals" - and all the opposition that has derailed that.

11/15 - Bill Smitrovich ,
Bill Smitrovich - NBC's "The Event"
Bill Smitrovich stars as Vice President Raymond Jarvis, the steely but tactful right hand to President Elias Martinez (Blair Underwood), in NBC's new high-octane thriller The Event. Born in Connecticut, Smitrovich began his professional acting career with Arthur Miller in the world premiere of Miller's "The American Clock" at the Spoleto Festival. After obtaining a Master of Fine Arts degree from Smith College in 1976, the former University of Massachusetts acting teacher earned his first big break in a "baptism of fire" appearance as understudy for the lead role (and all male roles) in the world premiere of "The American Clock" at Spoleto. Subsequently, Smitrovich and the production went on to Broadway, where it ran a record 13 performances. Stage parts followed off-Broadway and in the Hong Kong (International Arts Festival) Actors Theatre of Louisville's production of "Of Mice and Men." Other stage credits include "Food from Trash," "Requiem for a Heavyweight," "Far East," and "Frankie & Johnny at the Claire de Lune." Smitrovich was a founding member of the No Theatre Company of Northampton, Massachusetts, now in association with the Wooster Group, whose members included Willem Dafoe and the late Spalding Gray. Most recently Smitrovich was in Caryl Churchill's "A Number" at the ACT in San Francisco, where it won Best Play of 2007. Smitrovich gained recognition for his portrayal of Drew Thacher, a family man and father of a Down syndrome son in the critically acclaimed and award-winning dramatic series "Life Goes On." In addition, Smitrovich was a proud member of the all-star cast of the live television version of George Clooney's production of "Fail Safe." Smitrovich has appeared in over 30 feature films, including "Independence Day," "Ghosts of Mississippi," "Iron Man," "Nick of Time" with Johnny Depp, "Air Force One," "Thirteen Days," "Seven Pounds," and most recently his second film with Johnny Depp, an homage to Hunter S. Thompson's novel, "The Rum Diary," due for a September 2010 release. Smitrovich's many supporting and starring television roles include cigar-chomping Inspector Cramer in "Nero Wolfe Mysteries," D.A. Kenneth Walsh in "The Practice," Agent Olcyk in "Without a Trace," Lt. Bob Bletcher in "Millennium," "Fat Actress" as Cry-Baby McGuire, and with Annette Bening in HBO's "Mrs. Harris." Smitrovich remains an active SAG Hollywood Board Member, a National Chair of the Senior Performers Committee, and is presently on the SAG Foundation Golf Committee for the SAG Foundation Inaugural Golf Classic to be held at Lakeside Golf Course in Toluca Lake, California on August 16, 2010. The event will benefit catastrophic health care for needy members of the Screen Actors Guild. He is extremely proud of his relationship with the U.S. military, especially Air Space Command, and all the courageous men and women who protect and serve the U.S. Smitrovich is currently working on depicting Teddy Roosevelt in a one-man show for "Meeting of the Minds." Smitrovich now resides in Woodland Hills, California, with his wife Shaw Purnell. They have two children, son A.J. and daughter Maya.

11/12-Alan Colmes
Alan Colmes-Liberal Commentator, Syndicated Radio Talk Show Host and Fox News Channel Political Contributor
In 1979, his first year in talk radio, Alan Colmes unintentionally changed national policy during the Iranian hostage crisis by calling the American Embassy and speaking to a "student" identified as "Z". After that program, the US banned calls to Iran. During the ensuing years, Colmes spoke to luminaries like former President Bill Clinton and former President George H.W. Bush, and was stood up by the Reverend Al Sharpton at least four times. Colmes was the first media person to interview seduced secretary Jessica Hahn during the Jim Bakker scandal -- he accomplished this by promising her a stretch limousine with color TV as her transport to and from the station, plus a sandwich from the Carnegie Deli.
He was the last person to speak on radio stations WNBC, WMCA and WEVD before each closed or changed its format. WNBC went off the air in 1988, WMCA was sold to a religious broadcaster shortly after Colmes began there, and WEVD was leased to Disney to cover its ESPN format.
Colmes found himself heard in a new and unwelcome (to him) format when rapper Chuck D of Public Enemy took an earlier interview with Colmes and sampled it in Fear of a Black Planet. He threatened to sue, but could not, because Colmes did not own his own words -- the station did. He later stated in an interview that he and Chuck D "laugh about it".
In October of 1996, Colmes moved to television as Sean Hannity's co-host on Fox News' eponymous Hannity and Colmes, where Colmes offered a centrist liberal counterpoint Fox News opposite the conservative Hannity. In 2003, Fox News brought Colmes back to radio with the nationally-syndicated Alan Colmes Show, and in 2009 he quit Hannity's TV show.
